Welcome to the Woodcock Youth Centre
Where We Are
Community: Brockville, Ontario
Brockville is located
on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, in the Thousand Island region
of Eastern Ontario. It is easily accessible with Highway 401 running
through the heart of the city. Brockville prides itself with its summer
waterfront activities, which include sailing, fishing, water sports
and the annual "Riverfront Festival" that is celebrated
by the community and visitors alike during the month of June each
year.
Organized sporting activities
are thriving in our river front community, with a summer program that
includes soccer, baseball, basketball and complete youth program is
available through the local YMCA complex.
The YMCA facility offers
a wide variety of programs for the youth in our community. Working
out in the weight room, running the mile on the indoor track, or a
leisurely swim in the indoor pool are all available at the "Y".
For the more outgoing youth, a competitive game of racket ball, basketball
or earning a place on the St. Lawrence Swim team will challenge the
minds and physical abilities of today's youth.
An active hockey program
and our local heroes "The Brockville Braves" provide winter
excitement for the young and young at heart alike. Local cross country
ski trails, skating on the cities outdoor winter river rinks or a
horse drawn sleigh ride on a winters night are only part of the activities
available to the community. One of the local highlights of the winter
months is Brockville's "Oopik Winter Carnival", celebrating
winter in a river community.
Brockville has a population
of 2 200 and its professional health care needs are serviced by two
modern local hospitals. Just as professional and caring are the services
that are provided by the "Wellness Centre" for emotional
and behavioural needs.
The educational opportunities
provided by the public systems and the two secondary high schools
prepare young minds for future education in our "St. Lawrence
Community College" or prepares young minds for advancing to
university programs. Graduates from our educational system are well
prepared to join the thriving industrial/commercial community of the
Brockville area.
Local theatre, historical
museum, an aggressive library program and lovely parks make Brockville
a complete community to live in.
